Dr. Kraus is a research psychiatrist conducting a post-doctoral visiting fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health (Dr. Carlos Zarate). Dr. Kraus has been trained in clinical psychiatry at the Medical University of Vienna (Prof. Siegfried Kasper), completed a PhD on serotonin and neuroplasticity at the Medical University of Vienna (Prof. Rupert Lanzenberger) and is a senior researcher, attending psychiatrist and lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. He aims to establish biological correlates and predictors of antidepressant treatment by leveraging multimodal imaging methods. Reliable markers are urgently needed to introduce staging models that will inform patients, their relatives and healthcare providers on disease severity and potential future outcomes in major depression.
